This is not a
celebration. It's
a contestation.

Not so long ago, in the tiny, isolated village of Salla, people would pass the endless winter nights singing the many adventures of their favorite heroes and the mythological cold, icy and snowy landscapes.

But now, the landscape is melting, the temperature is rising, and the winter is getting shorter and shorter.

Despite the obviousness of Global Warming, the ideology of Climate Change Denial is gaining traction all over the world and increasing every year.

So, we've created this bid to raise attention about the climate emergency. Salla is changing. The whole planet is changing. Not in a good way.

2032 will be a “turning point” in the battle against Global Warming. We either act now or our legacy to the next generation will be a worse planet than the one we met and we arrived to.

What can
you do?

Healing the planet starts in your garage, in your kitchen, and at your dining-room table. The goal is simple. Carbon dioxide is the climate’s worst enemy. It’s released when oil, coal, and other fossil fuels are burned for energy — the energy we use to power our homes, cars, and smartphones. By using less of it, we can curb our own contribution to climate change while also saving money. Here are some easy, effective ways each one of us can adopt to make a difference:

Speak up Speak up!: the major way you can make an impact on climate change is talking to your friends and family, and make sure your representatives are making good decisions.
Lightbulbs Buy better lightbulbs: LED lightbulbs use up to 80% less energy than conventional incandescents.
Renewable energy Power your home with renewable energy: choose a utility company that generates at least half of its power from wind or solar.
Pull the plugs Pull the plugs: audio and video devices, cordless vacuums and power tools, and other electronics use energy even when they're not charging.
Wheaterize Weatherize: heating and air-conditioning account for almost half of home energy use. You can make your space more energy efficient by sealing drafts and ensuring it’s adequately insulated.
Drive a fuel-efficient vehicle: gas-smart cars, such as hybrids and fully electric vehicles, save fuel and money.
Reduce water waste: saving water reduces carbon pollution, too. So take shorter showers and turn off the tap while brushing your teeth.
Maintain your ride: if everyone kept their tires properly inflated, we could save billion gallons of gas each year.
Eat the food you buy—and make less of it meat: approximately 10% of U.S. energy use goes into growing, processing, packaging, and shipping food—about 40% of which just winds up in the landfill.
Rethink planes, trains, and automobiles: less frequent flying can make a big difference, too. Air transport is a major source of climate pollution. If you can take a train instead, do that.

Introducing

Kesa

our mascot

Meet Kesa, the Salla 2032 Summer Games mascot. Kesa is a Rangifer Tarandus Reindeer. The same species that Santa Claus uses on Christmas Day and has in his home just a few kilometers from here. In Salla, we have 2 reindeer per person. They love snow. But as the ice is slowly melting, Salla will be always summer. Will be always Kesä: summer in Finnish. Kesa belongs to all of us and is waiting to give you a warm welcome to the 2032 Summer Games.

Climate change is a fact.

We have to all shoulder the responsibility
for keeping the planet habitable, or we're going
to suffer the consequences together.

Our planet is changing in ways that will
have profound impacts on all of humankind.

We are already feeling the effects of climate change.
So we don't have time to deny it.
We're already busy dealing with it.

That's what's at stake.
That's what we're fighting for.

As a village that's already suffering the effects.
We can't wait or stand on the sidelines.
We've got a unique responsibility.

Save Salla. Save the planet.
